“Movies” is the opening track of Conan Gray’s second studio album "Superache". Here, Conan describes an idealistic love he craves, one seen in movies, and how the relationship between him and his lover fails to meet those expectations. It sets the tone for the rest of Gray’s sophomore studio album by describing a relationship gone sour.
"I think the reason why I chose ‘Movies’ as the opener is because it’s a song about being in denial. For a lot of my early teens and a lot of my life, I spent so long, trying so hard, to fall in love in a way that was normal. I wanted the Hallmark movie. I wanted that stupid, fake, perfect love because that’s what I grew up seeing. I think, in the past few years, I’ve realized that’s not what I want anymore. I wanted to show people the process of discovering that over this album."

"To me, I feel like “Movies” is about being super in denial about the state of a relationship, and you’re, like, “Yeah, everything’s great, we’re perfect, everything’s awesome,” and then it’s very obvious that things aren’t actually what you think they are. And I think it’s also about the kind of delusion of being, like, “Oh, I don’t know, I think we’re perfect for each other,” and then you actually look at it and you’re, like, “No, we are not.”"
